Robert Hamilton’s campaign for the House of Representatives (CA 49th District) has received the strong endorsement of retired Marine Corps four-star General Joseph P. Hoar.

General Hoar’s long and distinguished career in the Marine Corps included assignments at Camp Pendleton, in Vietnam, and as Commanding General of the Parris Island recruiting depot in South Carolina. In 1991 General Hoar relieved General H. Norman Schwarzkopf as Commander in Chief of United States Central Command. As commander of CENTCOM, he oversaw a number of operations in the Middle-Eastern theatre, including enforcement of the Persian Gulf naval embargo and the southern no-fly zone over Iraq, ground operations in Somalia, and American troop evacuation from Yemen. General Hoar retired from the Marine Corps in 1994.

In making the endorsement, General Hoar said, “Let’s send someone to Congress who really supports the troops. The Disabled American Veterans say that Darrell Issa voted “yes” on veteran’s issues only 29% of the time. Recently, he voted AGAINST the new G.I. Bill of Rights to upgrade education benefits for veterans. Bob Hamilton WILL support veterans in Congress!”

Hamilton’s bid to unseat Darrell Issa is rapidly gaining momentum due in no small measure to his strong bi-partisan support among military personnel and their families. In a recent endorsement, Washington, DC based Veterans & Military Families for Progress stated, “Hamilton’s strong commitment to the issues that are critical to veterans, those serving now, and their families is unsurpassed”.

As a commissioned naval officer Hamilton served in combat aboard a destroyer during the Vietnam War. His two brothers also served, as well as a son who is an Iraq War veteran and recently completed an assignment as commanding officer of a National Guard unit. Hamilton understands and shares the values of our military forces. He will ensure that the rights and needs of veterans, active-duty service members (including national guard and reservists), and their families are protected by legislation, regulation and public policy initiatives.
