“Bob is one of the most effective leaders in the Democratic Party. He is able to bring together members of different backgrounds and opinions to reach consensus — a valuable skill in today’s political environment. Bob will truly represent the people of this District and can do so effectively through his background in the military and his years in business. He is the representative we need! “

I think it’s interesting that friends and admirers of Bob Hamiltion going back 40+ years are writing about his maturity and judgment, his global and financial experience, his proud military service to our country, his balanced view of what it takes to represent the culture of the 49th district, and more recently his leadership and contribution to crisis management during the fires.
The question is what was Darrell Issa doing 40 years ago?
And more recently, what has Darrell Issa (more aptly named Darrell Isn’t) been doing for his district and his country? As far as I can see he is capable only of producing the most simplistic and demagogic soundbite answers to the complex questions that confront us.
While Hamilton looks to the macro-economic causes of illegal immigration as part of a multi-faceted solution, Issa’s solution is round-em-up and build a wall. Darrell: They’ve been rounded up before. They keep coming back. That’s the problem. Sure, build your wall, but that’s only a small part of the solution.
While Hamiton looks for fair and comprehensive solutions to the subprime mortgage mess that’s ruining home values in many district neighborhoods (including the emergence of some genuine criminality enabled by a lassaiz-faire Bush administration), Issa’s solution is to vanish on the topic, partly because he is one of the de-regulating enablers when he had the chance to do something about it.
While Hamilton, relying on his military and financial experience, looks for a multifaceted solution to our Iraq mess in a secure transition to self-governance in that country, Issa can only engage in name-calling of anyone who sees a broader solution than military policing. Buy a clue, Darrell; we have military, diplomatic, economic, business, and cultural tools in the American tool belt. You’ve had 5 years to figure it out. Osama bin Laden isn’t and never was in Iraq. However, Bob Hamilton’s son, and my brother are.
They paint a very different picture than you do.It goes on and on. This guy has been cheating the peope of the 49th district out of real representation on every issue that isn’t in his own self-interest. Earmarks? Darrell Isn’t. Campaign Finance Reform? Darrell Isn’t. Compensation for wounded and killed civilian employees in Iraq? Darrel Isn’t.
Wake up 49th. You’re missing out on some genuine leadership. It’s not just about change. It’s about a man, Bob Hamilton, who is willing to reach across the aisle to help clean up the worst mess since the Harding Administration.

08FebI found your name mentioned in the comment section of today’s NCTimes article “Clinton carried region’s Congressional Districts” I then googled your name + democrat and found your website.
I am thrilled by your biography. The military history and your service during the Viet Nam era gives you instant credibility with local conservatives but you also remember what it is to have people in charge who are not competent to win a war or get out. You also speak Spanish and were raised in a bicultural environment. I am so tired of Bush’s butchered and horribly accented Spanish and the hate speech of so many in my Republican party toward those hard working immigrants from Mexico and Central America.
07FebAgain, Issa misses the opportunity to say and do something constructive and instead launches a purely partisan attack on Democrats. It’s amazing how a guy that is probably a multi-millionaire, with a great medical insurance program available to him as a member of Congress, finds a way to rationalize voting against a program for medical insurance for poor and middle class children of parents who can not afford to get medical insurance.Click here for Issa’s North County Times article
He decries the Democrats “miserable way of starting off the new year when our economic and security challenges demand real leadership.” Instead of him providing any leadership about SCHIP, about the economy, or about ending the war, he spends his time writing his partisan op-ed piece and trying to subvert and weaken the way California casts its electoral vote for President. What do you think?

“I’m impressed with Bob Hamilton’s world view, his extensive experience in financial solutions that matter to most working families, and his commitment to the rule of law.”
